Chapter 11
Fire from the Lord consumes the rebels in Israel—
Israel murmurs and lusts for meat instead of manna—
Moses complains that he cannot bear the burden alone—
He is commanded to choose seventy elders to assist him—
The Lord promises meat until it becomes loathsome to the Israelites—
The seventy elders are chosen, they prophesy, the Lord comes down, and Eldad and Medad prophesy in the camp—
Israel is provided with quail—
The people lust, a great plague follows, and many die.
11:1
さて、民は災難に会っている人のように、
主の耳につぶやいた。
主はこれを聞いて怒りを発せられ、
主の火が彼らのうちに燃えあがって、
宿営の端を焼いた。
11:1
And when the people acomplained, it displeased the Lord: and the Lord heard it; and his anger was kindled; and the bfire of the Lord burnt among them, and consumed them that were in the uttermost parts of the camp.
11:2
そこで民はモーセにむかって叫んだ。
モーセが主に祈ったので、
その火はしずまった。
11:2
And the people cried unto Moses; and when Moses prayed unto the LORD, the fire was quenched.
11:3
主の火が彼らのうちに燃えあがったことによって、
その所の名はタベラと呼ばれた。
11:3
And he called the name of the place Taberah: because the fire of the LORD burnt among them.
11:4
また彼らのうちにいた多くの寄り集まりびとは欲心を起し、
イスラエルの人々もまた再び泣いて言った、
「ああ、肉が食べたい。
11:4
¶ And the mixed multitude that was among them fell a alusting: and the children of Israel also wept again, and said, Who shall give us flesh to eat?
11:5
われわれは思い起すが、エジプトでは、ただで、魚を食べた。
きゅうりも、すいかも、にらも、たまねぎも、そして、にんにくも。
11:5
We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt freely; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlick:
11:6
しかし、いま、われわれの精根は尽きた。
われわれの目の前には、 このマナのほか何もない」。
11:6
But now our soul is dried away: there is nothing at all, beside this manna, before our eyes.
11:7
マナは、こえんどろの実のようで、
色はブドラクの色のようであった。
11:7
And the amanna was as bcoriander seed, and the colour thereof as the colour of bdellium.
11:8
民は歩きまわって、これを集め、ひきうすでひき、
または、うすでつき、かまで煮て、これをもちとした。
その味は油菓子の味のようであった。
11:8
And the people went about, and gathered it, and ground it in mills, or beat it in a mortar, and baked it in pans, and made cakes of it: and the taste of it was as the taste of fresh oil.
11:9
夜、宿営の露がおりるとき、
マナはそれと共に降った。
11:9
And when the dew fell upon the camp in the night, the manna fell aupon it.
11:10
モーセは、民が家ごとに、
おのおのその天幕の入口で泣くのを聞いた。
そこで主は激しく怒られ、
またモーセは不快に思った。
11:10
¶ Then Moses heard the people weep throughout their families, every man in the door of his tent: and the anger of the Lord was kindled greatly; Moses also was displeased.
11:11
そして、モーセは主に言った、
「あなたはなぜ、しもべに悪い仕打ちをされるのですか。
どうしてわたしはあなたの前に恵みを得ないで、
このすべての民の重荷を負わされるのですか。
11:11
And Moses said unto the LORD, Wherefore hast thou afflicted thy servant? and wherefore have I not found favour in thy sight, that thou layest the burden of all this people upon me?
11:12
わたしがこのすべての民を、はらんだのですか。
わたしがこれを生んだのですか。
そうではないのに、あなたはなぜわたしに
『養い親が乳児を抱くように、彼らをふところに抱いて、
あなたが彼らの先祖たちに誓われた地に行け』
と 言われるのですか。
11:12
Have I conceived all this people? have I begotten them, that thou shouldest say unto me, Carry them in thy bosom, as a nursing father beareth the sucking child, unto the land which thou swarest unto their fathers?
11:13
わたしはどこから肉を獲て、
このすべての民に与えることができましょうか。
彼らは泣いて、『肉を食べさせよ』
と わたしに 言っているのです。
11:13
Whence should I have flesh to give unto all this people? for they weep unto me, saying, Give us flesh, that we may eat.
11:14
わたしひとりでは、このすべての民を負うことができません。
それは わたしには 重過ぎます。
11:14
I am not able to bear all this people alone, because it is too aheavy for me.
11:15
もしわたしがあなたの前に恵みを得ますならば、
わたしにこのような仕打ちをされるよりは、
むしろ、ひと思いに殺し、
このうえ苦しみに会わせないでください」。
11:15
And if thou deal thus with me, kill me, I pray thee, aout of hand, if I have found favour in thy sight; and let me not see my wretchedness.
11:16
主はモーセに言われた、
「イスラエルの長老たちのうち、民の長老となり、
つかさとなるべきことを、
あなたが知っている者七十人をわたしのもとに集め、
会見の幕屋に連れてきて、
そこにあなたと共に立たせなさい。
11:16
¶ And the Lord said unto Moses, Gather unto me aseventy men of the elders of Israel, whom thou knowest to be the elders of the people, and bofficers over them; and bring them unto the ctabernacle of the congregation, that they may stand there with thee.
11:17
わたしは下って、その所で、あなたと語り、
また わたしはあなたの上にある霊を、
彼らにも分け与えるであろう。
彼らはあなたと共に、民の重荷を負い、
あなたが、ただひとりで、
それを 負うことの ないように するであろう。
11:17
And I will come down and talk with thee there: and I will take of the spirit which is upon thee, and will put it upon them; and they shall abear the burden of the people with thee, that thou bear it not thyself alone.
11:18
あなたは また 民に 言いなさい、
『あなたがたは身を清めて、あすを待ちなさい。
あなたがたは肉を食べることができるであろう。
あなたがたが泣いて主の耳に、
わたしたちは肉が食べたい。
エジプトにいた時は良かったと言ったからである。
それゆえ、主はあなたがたに肉を与えて食べさせられるであろう。
11:18
And say thou unto the people, Sanctify yourselves against to morrow, and ye shall eat flesh: for ye have wept in the ears of the LORD, saying, Who shall give us flesh to eat? for it was well with us in Egypt: therefore the LORD will give you flesh, and ye shall eat.
11:19
あなたがたがそれを食べるのは、
一日や 二日や 五日や 十日や 二十日 ではなく、
11:19
Ye shall not eat one day, nor two days, nor five days, neither ten days, nor twenty days;
11:20
一か月に及び、ついにあなたがたの鼻から出るようになり、
あなたがたは、それに飽き果てるであろう。
それはあなたがたのうちにおられる主を軽んじて、
その前に泣き、
なぜ、
わたしたちはエジプトから出てきたのだろうと
言ったからである』」。
11:20
But even a whole month, until it come out at your nostrils, and it be loathsome unto you: because that ye have despised the LORD which is among you, and have wept before him, saying, Why came we forth out of Egypt?
11:21
モーセは言った、
「わたしと共におる民は徒歩の
男子だけでも六十万です。
ところがあなたは、
『わたしは彼らに肉を与えて一か月のあいだ食べさせよう』と言われます。
11:21
And Moses said, The people, among whom I am, are six hundred thousand footmen; and thou hast said, I will give them flesh, that they may eat a whole month.
11:22
羊と牛の群れを彼らのためにほふって、
彼らを飽きさせるというのですか。
海のすべての魚を彼らのために集めて、
彼らを飽きさせるというのですか」。
11:22
Shall the flocks and the herds be slain for them, to suffice them? or shall all the fish of the sea be gathered together for them, to suffice them?
11:23
主はモーセに言われた、
「主の手は短かろうか。
あなたは、いま、 わたしの言葉の成るかどうかを
見るであろう」。
11:23
And the LORD said unto Moses, Is the LORD's hand waxed short? thou shalt see now whether my word shall come to pass unto thee or not.
11:24
この時モーセは出て、主の言葉を民に告げ、
民の長老たち七十人を集めて、
幕屋の周囲に立たせた。
11:24
¶ And Moses went out, and told the people the words of the Lord, and gathered the aseventy men of the elders of the people, and set them round about the tabernacle.
11:25
主は雲のうちにあって下り、
モーセと語られ、
モーセの上にある霊を、
その七十人の長老たちにも分け与えられた。
その霊が彼らの上にとどまった時、彼らは預言した。
ただし、その後は重ねて預言しなかった。
11:25
And the Lord came down in a acloud, and spake unto him, and took of the spirit that was upon him, and gave it unto the seventy belders: and it came to pass, that, when the spirit rested upon them, they cprophesied, and did not cease.
11:26
その時ふたりの者が、宿営にとどまっていたが、
ひとりの名はエルダデと言い、
ひとりの名はメダデといった。
彼らの上にも霊がとどまった。
彼らは名をしるされた者であったが、
幕屋に行かなかったので、 宿営のうちで預言した。
11:26
But there remained two of the men in the camp, the name of the one was Eldad, and the name of the other Medad: and the spirit rested upon them; and they were of them that were written, but went not out unto the tabernacle: and they prophesied in the camp.
11:27
時にひとりの若者が走ってきて、
モーセに告げて言った、
「エルダデとメダデとが宿営のうちで預言しています」。
11:27
And there ran a young man, and told Moses, and said, Eldad and Medad do prophesy in the camp.
11:28
若い時からモーセの従者であった
ヌンの子ヨシュアは答えて言った、
「わが主、モーセよ、彼らをさし止めてください」。
11:28 And aJoshua the son of bNun, the servant of Moses, one of his young men, answered and said, My lord Moses, forbid them.
11:29
モーセは彼に言った、
「あなたは、わたしのためを思って、
ねたみを起しているのか。
主の民がみな預言者となり、
主がその霊を彼らに与えられることは、願わしいことだ」。
11:29
And Moses said unto him, Enviest thou for my sake? would God that all the Lord’s people were aprophets, and that the Lord would put his spirit upon them!
11:30
こうしてモーセは
イスラエルの長老たちと共に、 宿営に引きあげた。
11:30
And Moses gat him into the camp, he and the elders of Israel.
11:31
さて、主のもとから風が起り、
海の向こうから、うずらを運んできて、
これを宿営の近くに落した。
その落ちた範囲は、宿営の周囲で、
こちら側も、おおよそ一日の行程、
あちら側も、おおよそ一日の行程、
地面から高さおおよそ二キュビトであった。
11:31
¶ And there went forth a wind from the Lord, and brought aquails from the sea, and let them fall by the camp, as it were a day’s journey on this side, and as it were a day’s journey on the other side, round about the camp, and as it were two cubits high upon the face of the earth.
11:32
そこで民は立ち上がってその日は終日、
その夜は終夜、またその次の日も終日、
うずらを集めたが、
集める事の最も少ない者も、
十ホメルほど集めた。
彼らはみな、 それを宿営の周囲に広げておいた。
11:32
And the people stood up all that day, and all that night, and all the next day, and they gathered the quails: he that gathered least gathered ten homers: and they spread them all abroad for themselves round about the camp.
11:33
その肉がなお、彼らの歯の間にあって食べつくさないうちに、
主は民にむかって怒りを発し、
主は非常に 激しい疫病を もって 民を 撃たれた。
11:33
And while the flesh was yet between their teeth, ere it was chewed, the wrath of the Lord was kindled against the people, and the Lord smote the people with a very great aplague.
11:34
これによって、その所の名はキブロテ・ハッタワと呼ばれた。
欲心を起した民を、そこに 埋めたからである。
11:34
And he called the name of that place aKibroth-hattaavah: because there they buried the people that blusted.
11:35
キブロテ・ハッタワから、民はハゼロテに進み、
ハゼロテにとどまった。
11:35
And the people journeyed from Kibrothhattaavah unto Hazeroth; and abode at Hazeroth.

呟きから 起こった 悲劇は
死という 悲しみの 出来事と なった
わたしも つぶやく 気を つけねば なるまい
満足とは 程遠くても 希望を 持って
人となりの 人生を 歩もう
神は 分け隔てない お人だから
信じて 神童を 貫こう
この世の 全ての人が 愛 の 糧 に ありますように
